Most Twins fans in the world knows the name Philip Humber.
Humber was a big time prospect from the Mets farm system and for awhile it was thought that he would be the greatest pitcher to ever play the game (slight exaggeration). Twins fans know him due to the fact that he was involved in the Johna Santana trade. That's about all.
Drafted in the first round by the Mets and #3 overall in 2004, he gave them good reason to get excited. In his 3 years at Rice college Humber went 35-8 with 422 SO in only 353 IP. He moved up quickly through the Mets system, making his debut in 2006. In '07 he spent most of the year in AAA New Orleans and faired quite well posting an 11-9 mark with 120 SO before being called back up to make 3 appearances. Those were his last games as a Met however, as he was dealt as a part of the Johan Santana deal in the offseason. In '08 and '09 combined, Humber only appeared in 13 games as a Twin as he never seemed to be able to put together the same numbers in their minor leagues, let alone the Major league level. The Twins designated him for assignment in April of '09 and later that year, in December, signed a minor league deal with the Royals. .Humber threw in 2 games for the Royals in 2010, but unfortunately his pitching wasn't the story this year. On June 10th, Humber was hit in the face by a line drive while on the mound for the Omaha Royals. He was able to walk off the field under his own power.
The only update I could find on his condition was this:
"Philip received stitches in a few places and was in an extreme amount of pain, but came through and handled himself incredibly. He will make a full recovery."
Left on the Royals facebook page on June 11th.
Hopefully Humber can find his way back to the field and regain his form.

(...Joe)
