1996 Pacific Cramer's Choice

A little while ago, Tim over at 90's Box Breaks did a Spotlight post on '96 Pacific Cramer's Choice. As usual, he did a spot on job writing about it and it jarred my memory of my Piazza Cramaer's Choice. With odds coming in at 1:721 packs you'd think I'd have this card chained down to the floor! But I actually forgot about it for a little bit.

I picked this up off (of course) ebay about a year or so ago. I knew about the odds of this card and it only had a day or two left before it ended. I put a pretty decent sized bid on it, hoping it would stand up. I checked the auction once it ended and was shocked to see it only go up to about $5! No way a card with those odds should go for that little, but I got away with a hell of a steal. I've looked for another '96 Piazza since, to compare, but haven't even seen one listed. There are only 2 '96 Cramer's listed right now on the bay, a Ken Griffey Jr and Greg Maddux with BINs of $55 and $50 respectively.

Pacific has alot of high points from their run as a company. The also have alot of low points. Their inserts were either incredible looking, or just down right obnoxious. The Cramer's Choice cards are really very nice. Die cut pyramid shape, with a refractorish shine to them. They became a staple for Pacific, being included in every years set at the same odds until 1999 when they became serial numbered to 299. 2000 and 2001 saw them fall back to the previous odds and then we all have a pretty good idea where they went from there.

It's a very cool set, so keep your eyes open for your favorite player. Hopefully you'll get lucky too!
