Big Box of Trade Bait ft. '75 Yount RC #I'mStill Alive

Hello world!

It's been over 9 months since my last post and some of you have gotten sporadic emails from me for trades but I'm ready and raring to get back into the swing of trading again!!!

I've come to realization/conclusion that The Sandlot as a blog will no longer be active, but I fully intend to keep using it as an online catalog for my collections and will regularly update them along with trade bait to help grow my PCs and make trading easier for myself and everyone else.

I dropped by my LCS last weekend and stumbled upon a 5,000ct box cards for an attractive price. I riffled through them real quick and after a few minutes, decided to buy it and take a chance on finding a bunch of Mets and flip the rest in trades. What I found was a box full of '79, '80 and '81 Topps as well as a healthy stack '82 O-Pee-Chee and a slathering of '82 Donruss! There are a handful of '75 and '78 Topps and '81 Donruss as well and some misc stuff. Out of the few '75 Topps, there was a Bill Madlock sporting the Topps Rookie Cup as well as a Robin Yount RC! Yup, just a '75 Yount, hangin' out with his buddies. Granted it's not in the best of shape, a piece of tape is actually holding a 3/4'' chunk of the card together, but it's still quite the surprise!

Some other highlights included:
'78 Topps Mark Fidrych
'79 Topps Gary Carter
'79 Topps Yastrzemski
'79 Topps Jim Palmer AS
'79 & '80 Topps Johnny Bench AS
'79 & '80 Topps Robin Yount
'79 Topps Tom Seaver
'79 Topps Willie McCovey
'79 & '80 Topps Reggie Jackson
'79 & '80 Topps Andre Dawson
'82 O-Pee-Chee Carl Yastrzemksi
'82 O-Pee-Chee Jim Palmer
'82 O-Pee-Chee Steve Carlton

RC:
'75 Topps Robin Yount
'78 Topps Clint Hurdle
'81 Topps Ned Yost
'81 Topps Rusty Kuntz (just cuz)
'82 Donruss Brett Butler
'82 Donruss Dave Stewart
'82 Donruss Terry Francona

All the cards are in either Near Mint or Mint condition with the exception of the '75 Topps. My camera battery is charging right now, so just let me know if you'd like some pictures and I'll be happy to send them! I'll begin checking want lists to try and strike up some trades but if you're interested, please either leave a comment or shoot me an email at thesandotcards@yahoo.com. Thanks guys and I'm looking forward to trading again!

Tradewinds: Night Owl

Quote of the Day:
"There is no during after snorting a pixie stick. The only thing you can do immediately following doing a line of pixie stick is attempt to reach the nearest ice pick to gouge your brain out while simultaneously beg for your own life...it's an odd feeling"

Looking through the 1/2 off bin of vintage cards at my LCS, I stumbled upon a 1954 Bowman Don Newcomb. "This should be pretty easy to trade" I thought. My thought was correct. A few days after posting it for trade, I received interest from the legendary Night Owl.

I've got a '63 Hodges, he said.
Sounds good to me, I said.

Also included were a fine selection of new Piazzas
9 to be exact, creeping me ever closer to 1,000 total for the collection. Currently I rest at 880.

My favorite of which was this '96 Ultra "Rawhide", because no one did inserts in the 90's and early '00s better than Fleer!

Thanks again for the trade and hopefully I can find that Billy Loesin for you soon!

Trip to my LCS: Three Packs of Pinnacle, 2 of 3

Well, that was quick.

Less that 24 hours after I posted the Rose card on ebay with a BIN of $15 someone made and offer for $10, which paid for the trip. Sold!

Here's pack number two of three:

Never a bad thing to start off a pack with a Mike Trout card

And here are the backs, just in case anyone's been jonesin' to see that

The good thing about having a card shop right outside of D.C. is that I now finally have a place to send all my Nats cards

Not a bad RC to pull from a loose pack!

Nor is that!

And the final card of the pack! Super cool looking set, 1:6 odds, I believe and there is a Wright out there (hint hint, hint, hint hint hint...hint)

Trip to my LCS: Three Packs of Pinnacle; 1 of 3

I've had a shitty little weekend. Nothing really...bad, has actually happened, it's just been one of those days where nothing you do actually yields any results and just happened to have two of those days in a row now. So I figured what better time to test my luck with some packs right?

I've been buying packs of the new Pinnacle here and there as I've picked up some random singles at my local card shop. I like the design and it gave me just enough satisfaction to keep me from spending money I don't totally have on a whole box. When I walked in today, I saw they only had three packs left, all marked at 50% off! So I grabbed them all, like a fucking rat.

Pack One
Each pack's got 8 cards and at least one insert per pack. There are no stated odds on the packs and the internet isn't 100% either, but we'll deal with that when we need too.
I'm a sucker for black boarders. Sure they chip to hell but I like darker colors, they make me happy.

I've pulled at least one Yankee card in every pack that I've opened in the past 3 months, including 5 in one pack alone. You think that's funny Cardboard Gods?

At least it was offset by a Met immediately after. All of these cards are for trade, minus the Mets of course.

"Awaiting the Call" insert (1:6) nice, basic design without being boring. I really like alot of the cards out of this set. They feel like a throwback to the first couple years of Pinnacle but still maintain a modern feeling of being classy as fuck.

"The Hit King 'Artist Proof'" insert. This is a 5 card insert set of, you guessed it, Pete Rose. I couldn't find the odds for this set, let alone the Artist Proof parallel of it. Checking out ebay, these have sold for decent money, $10-$18, so I may throw this up there and see if I can get lucky!

Not a bad selection for $2.50. Hopefully the next two will be just as good!

From a Different Point of View

Hello again everyone, it's me, Shea!
It's been a while since my last post here (that seems familiar) but I'm seeing alot of my old friends are still here which is great! Hopefully I can be a regular here again and keep showing off my collection with everyone. I'd like to continue with the second card from the 1931 Player's Cigarettes set that I started a year ago. In case you missed it, or need a refresher, here's the original post! Well then, on to the next card!

1931 Player's Cigarettes
#2 Alsatian
I have to admit, when I first read "Alsatian", I had to look the breed up because although the picture looks like a couple of my friends, I've never heard them called by that name before so I had to be sure. Turns out that Alsatian is the U.K. name for a German Shepard! Shepards are very pretty dogs and super smart. I know a few from the dog park and they're really nice, sometimes we like to chase some of the other dogs together (we're just playing, I swear!). German Shepards are a relatively new breed, becoming officially recognized in the late 1800's and are a part of the Herding group, putting them in the same class as Boarder Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs and even Corgis! Being a herding dog, they need lots of daily exercise and they need to be kept mentally active and busy as well.

The most common coloring for German Sheprads are Black and Tan, although they can also have solid black or solid white coats.

Hope you enjoyed my first post in almost a year! Until next time,

Mike Piazza Collection: 1992 Bowman RC

This is something that I've been wanting to do for a while now, in some aspect, to get pictures of all my Piazza cards to link to the collection page to allow anyone to view the actual card. One of the most exciting things about our blog scene is being able to see new sets and old ones that we never even knew existed and then be able to be on the look out for our favorite players as a result.

So I think it would be fun to do an individual post for each Piazza card I have and will obtain in my collection. This is done by several bloggers and I am heavily using Nachos Grande's Barry Larkin posts as my template as he does a great job with them. Well now, shall we begin?

Year: 1992
Set: Bowman
Card Number: 461
Card Attributes: RC
How Obtained: ebay

Early Bowman sets are littered with players posing in street clothes or awkwardly holding a bat or glove, with the rookies often being the worst offenders. Piazza escaped that fate with what has become an iconic card of the "junk wax" era.

 Set Information (from BaseballCardPedia):
Considered one of the landmark baseball card sets of the 1990s, 1992 Bowman was released in August of that year. The set consists of 705 cards with 45 foil-stamped cards inserted at a rate of one per wax pack, two per jumbo pack, and five per 80-card "carton." These foil cards feature past and present Team USA players and minor league POY Award winners.
After a disastrous 1989 debut, a lackluster 1990 effort, and an improved 1991 offering, Topps upgraded the 1992 version of Bowman to place it (quality wise) on par with their Stadium Club brand. All cards were printed on white, UV-coated cardstock, with full color fronts and backs. More importantly, Topps drastically cut production by printing '92 Bowman to order; a decision many dealers who threw away their order forms would later regret.

Brand Spakin' New Vintage Trade Bait

Nothing like a little vintage trade bait to get everyone a little giddy!

Before I begin, let me say that beginning tomorrow, for every day I don't get my end of a trade with  Dutch Card Guy out in the mail, I will remove 1 fingernail from myself.
Extreme?
Possibly.
Will I learn anything?
To be determined.

As I've said, the card shop near me has a ton of vintage, a very good amount of which can be had for quite cheap. Some super cheap even! I've been able to slowly rebuild some drained trade reserves during my absence, which I'm now hoping will be joyfully drained once again! Here's some of the vintage I've picked out. Let me know if there's anything you'd like. My wants haven't changed a bit!

*PENDING* 1950 Bowman Bob Potterfield *PENDING*

*TRADED* 1953 Topps Preacher Roe *TRADED*

*TRADED* 1954 Bowman Don Newcombe *TRADED*

1954 Topps Ted Kluszewski

1958 Topps Frank Robinson/Ed Bailey/Birdie Tebbets

1962 Topps Roberto Clemente/Vida Pinson/Ken Boyer/Wally Moon

Nice easy post to get myself back into the swing of things. Tomorrow is day full of dog related meetings for me, but you can be damn sure I'll be excusing myself at 2pm to check on the HOF voting. Mike Piazza in year 2!!!
