"Why do I collect baseball cards?"
Not like "Ew, why do I do this shit" but rather "Hmmm, why..."
I came to the conclusion that it's mostly because while it can be social (card shows, card shops, trading and all the card blogs) it's also very solitary which can be nice. Also, I have a tendency to become very stressed out over very insignificant things, but ripping backs, busting boxes and scratching names off a checklist has yet to give me that ulcer I've always wanted...
So now I ask you guys, why do you collect?
Is it the thrill of big money no whammies STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stephen Strasburg Red Autograph 1/1 Auto

Or is it to bring you back to when you collected and traded with friends at school. A more nostalgic touch.

Or is it because you want to feel a part of your favorite team or player

Or is it something else? Leave a comment and let me know!!!
Oh yeah, the contest? It's for 2 computer games of Strat0O-Matic Baseball! I was sent them awhile back, but with the group break didn't have the chance to do this until now. All you gotst to do is leave your comment and you're entered! I will random.org the names off a few times and position #1 will win along with the name in position #31 (Piazzas' number!)
If I don't get 31 or more comments, then that's easy. The count will continue around the horn until 31 comes up. Ex- 20 comments, #1 will win and number #11 will win.

I collect because of the memories of my childhood. Baseball was something I shared w. my dad growing up and now that he isn't here with us anymore it's a way I an remember him. I hope to pass this along to my daughter when she gets older.
ReplyDeleteI collect to stay connected to the game. It helps me invest myself in what I'm watching even more. It was a great way to connect with family and friends. Plus, there is that element of surprise and gambling and fate that comes with it. Sure we aren't all going to bet on 00 Green on the roulette wheel (the Strasburg auto), but betting on red (your favorite player out of a pack or two) is still gambling. Card collecting is a way to feed that desire without the degenerate feelings.

Just another way to get closer to the team...
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing I collect because of a mental disorder. No, wait, I wouldn't be collecting Twins cards then...
ReplyDeleteI collect because I hope to pass on my cards to my future children and share my love of baseball through them.
ReplyDeleteIt keeps me closer to the game. I feel more attached. And, I learn something. Who knew Randy Johnson pitched 15 games for the Astros? And............It's just plain fun, and for the most part, not expensive! Thanks for the contest, Joe!
ReplyDeleteI collect because I must.
