Today we're gonna have a 3 card special here. They're all of the same player so I felt as though it was appropriate.
Today's subject: Pete Rose!
So will the generic, soulless game show girl show us what's behind door #1!!!!

1965 Topps
Ahh, all the way at the beginning. The famed '65 Topps set with only 2 years worth of Major League stats on the back. The "bio" is mainly all about his minor league days, plus the cartoon mentioning his winning ROY in '63. My favorite part? Seeing a career total of only 309 hits!
Door #2 please Ms. Doe!!!

1967 Topps
Here we begin to see the evolution of Pete Rose the fielder. In '65 he's listed as 2B, in '67 he's now listed as 2B-OF. Hmmm, we'll finish that later. When I pulled these cards out of that glorious bag, that was when I first learned that Rose was a switch hitter. Never knew that before and I knew ALOT about baseball for a 12 year old, or whatever I was. Of course, when you flip to the back, you're eyes get drawn to the Hits column which has jumped 400+ hits in 2 years. But check this out, something I found to be pretty cool, in '61 when he was playing for a Minor League team in Tampa he railed 30 triples! Fucking 30!!! Nice.
Door # 3!!!

1969 Topps
And lastly we have a 1969 Topps example. Here, he has made his complete transformation to the OF. Another 2 years, another 400+ tallies in the hits column. The cartoon on the back kindda repeats its self from the '65, basically just saying that he was the ROY in '63. Pretty lazy Topps...
So there's just 3 more cards from what my Uncle gave to me from that magical paper bag. I'm sure there will be more to come.
Oh, and to all contestants who didn't make it to the final round you will all recieve a consulation prize....

This moth. Thank you and good night.
