Mets fan, born and raised.
Can you guess what my first card was?
By the way, this isn't a contest.
Can you guess what my first card was?
Seriously, try to imagine what you think my first card was. Based off who and what I collect try to get a picture. Born in '87, that should narrow it down a bit, for instance it's not gonna be of David Wright. Is it Piazza!?!? Nope, that would be too easy. Hmm, Rey ordonez is kind of an obscure player to collect. Is it him! Nah, B.
OK, so being a Mets fan and having 2 parents who are also Mets fans and the time period being in the mid-90's at the time. That leaves the door open for the mid-90's, of course, as well as the early 90's and late 80's as good candidates. Let's see... ah, Keith Hernandez? No. Oh, it's gotta be of Rusty Staub what with the family history and all... Wrong. Umm, David Cone. Has to freaking be. I'm running out of ways to say NO. All right, what's the magical card all ready...

You have to be kidding me. A die hard Mets fan, a DIE HARD Mets fan and this is my first card? Yup. You couldn't make this shit up. A '95 Pinnacle Chipper Jones was the first baseball card I ever held and played with and carried around. Who gave it to me you ask? The Tooth Fairy. It's OK to be jealous.
This of course, is Chipper before his douche days with John Rocker. As a kid, I was a fan of every team, literally. I made countless lists ranking every team from favorite to least favorite making sure to pencil in the Mets first and Yankees last before filling in the rest. I didn't care about the card being a Brave and at the time I liked chipper Jones because he was 1- A baseball player and 2- a good baseball player. I was also an Alex Rodriguez fan at the time. Shows alot about childhood innocence. I was very excited and I find it amusing that this was the card that started it all. At least it wasn't an Anthony Young card. That just wouldn't have been very promising for a young boy.
So what was your first card?
(...Joe)

Totally jealous that the tooth fairy gave you cards.
ReplyDeleteI'd start pulling teeth right now if I thought the tooth fairy would bring me cards.
ReplyDeleteI had a post that showed one of the cards from my first pack of cards, but I don't know if it was the first card of the pack.

My first cards came from a 1988 Topps pack that included Don Mattingly & Darryl Strawberry.
