Awesome Pickup for an Even Better Price!

Everyone has their own ways to spend all that extra coin that collects over time. Some put it right into their savings, cash it and save it up in a rainy day fund or even donate it to charity. I on the other hand love nothing more than to think of all the wonderfully responsible grown up things I could do with that money and then blow it all on a childhood hobby that takes an adult income to support.

I had a pretty good chunk of change

hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaah

this time around, so I took a couple days to decide what part of my collections I wanted to spend it on. Typically I'll work on whatever "drive" I'm in at that moment in time. Sometimes I'll be on a Mets kick and I'll get a bunch of team sets. Other times I'll be on a Piazza kick and I'll look for Piazza stuff. Well this time around I've been kindda in between drives lately, coming out of my '64 Topps Coins set and going into the Piazza collection. So rather than figure out what I was gonna do, I came up with this-

Most of the money will go towards the '64 coins
1/2 of that will go towards the Piazza collection
1/2 of that will go towards the Wright collection
And the rest will go towards trade bait

I put a huge dent into the '64 set with the biggest pick up coming in the form of...
Photobucket
A Micky freakin' Mantle!

I got super lucky with this one, winning it for only $15 including shipping. There are 3 Mantles in the '64 Coins set , one regular "portrait" coin and 2 "All-Star" coins (one left handed and one right handed). The "portrait" coin will typically sell for anywhere between $40-60 and the "All-Stars" usually for around $30-40 from what I've seen. So I was able to grab this one for basically half off and it's in pretty good shape. It has the typical rim wear that these have, but there's no major scratches or rusting or dents that would cause it to go unnoticed. I got lucky and I'm not gonna question it!

I upped the completion rate on this set to a little over 40% on this latest spree and I got a couple more big pieces to show off. I was hoping to rip into some more today, but APPARENTLY the mail doesn't come on Labor Day. Bullshit. I have never had off on Labor Day and neither should the mail when I'm waiting for super fun stuff to come. Someone should write a letter.

  1. Haha, agreed man. I worked labor day and came home to tear up some manila envelopes. Then I remembered it was labor day...mail holidays are a bummer.

  2. Congrats on the pick-up... I am collecting the 1964 Topps Giants set and I was thrilled to grab the Mantle from that for cheap.
