Ok, Time for a Rant...

If I hear one more dim-witted needle dick say that closers aren't Hall of Famers, someone's gonna die.

This is something that has been bothering me for a bit now, but was rekindled today when I overheard two dudes talking about hall of fame guys and one was bitching that relievers aren't worthy of getting in, and of course this has been in debate for the last 5 years now with Lee Smith, and this is obviously bullshit. I have a test, that I want to ask all these fucking baseball writers who vote on HOF elections...

"Do you plan on voting for Lee Smith?"

They fill in the blank...

"Do you plan on voting for Trevor Hoffman?"

...they fill in the blank...

"Do you plan on voting for Mariano Rivera?"

...they fill in the blank.

The odds are, they said no for the 1st two, but yes for Rivera.

Well, what the fuck! Why yes for him, but not Hoffman or Smith? They're all closers! And it's been pretty clear the last few years that these assholes don't vote for closers because they're not, well real positions. Fuck you. If you're not gonna vote for Smith, or Hoffman, then Rivera should get fucked too.

"But he's the greatest closer of all time!"

But I thought they're not real players? So the double of nothing is still nothing shit head. Here's some stats...

Smith: Saves-487 SO- 1251 IP- 1289.1 ERA- 3.03

Hoffman- Saves- 593 SO- 1105 IP- 1046 ERA- 2.77

Rivera- Saves- 528 SO- 1008 IP- 1093 ERA- 2.25

All very comparable. Obviously, Rivera has better postseason numbers than everyone. And we all know players have gotten into the Hall based off one fucking postseason moment, but when someone goes 18-20+ years with the same consistent numbers that sets records, then they deserve a nod. And if you're gonna give it to one guy who has comparable numbers, if not numbers that are beneath another guys, then that's fucked up and shit needs to be reconsidered.

I'm not saying that I don't think Rivera should be elected in, but I can definitely sense some biased bullshit on the horizon.

A message to the voters: "Take your heads out of you asses and realize that just because a guy didn't play for the Yankees, dosen't mean he's not a Hall of Famer."

Let's face it, if Edgar Martinez were a Yankee, he'd have been in, 1st ballot. And no, I'm not just saying this because I'm an angry Mets fan or whatnot. You have to admit, there is some amount of bias and that gets directed towards the Mets and Red Sox too, because they're all in bigger markets. But when it comes to Cooperstown, it shouldn't matter if a guy is a first baseman, shortstop, center fielder, starting pitcher or reliever. If they're on the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, Padres, Nationals or Blue Jays. If they're great, then they're great and they deserve to be fucking recognized. If that's too God damn fucking difficult for these writers to figure out, then step the fuck aside and let the people who are actually fans make the decisions. The odds are, we know more than they do anyways...

...I feel better now

  1. I believe Trevor Hoffman is a no-brainer and the writers will vote him in easily.

Hoffman's induction will spark debate as to why Lee Smith isn't in, which may help him get in AFTER Hoffman.

I think the bias towards closers has shifted slowly over the last decade. Gossage getting in stepped things up too.

  2. Gossage should help. If nothing else, these guys will get in through the Veterans committee, but look how long that can take. (Joe Gordon)
