Today, I stopped by the liquor store to buy a bottle of whiskey for my girlfriend and Bailey's Irish Cream for myself. So is my life.
I recently gave myself some money to spend on the Piazza collection through ebay. I managed to pick up some great cards this time around and overall the entire process was rather uneventful. I found a couple great deals, a few I've been looking at for a while and I was able to see some really great and rare cards along the way. Even though I never had a prayer to win them, it was still fun to look at the pictures and see them out there.
There was this one little annoyance though. Rather than me explain the entire process, I think I'll just copy and paste the contents of the messages that the seller and I sent back and forth. This'll be fun, I promise.
Back story: I found a 2002 Fleer Focus JE "Jersey Parallel" #'d/31 for $12 obo (marked down from the original asking price of $25). I sent a offer of $10 and the seller excepted the offer. I saw he had another Piazza up for auction, a 2005 Leaf Limited "Spotlight" #'/99 ending in a few days. I put a bid of $1.04 on it. I wasn't going to be aggressive with this card, but I figured if I could get it as a "throw in" then why not. I was the first bidder, so I was winning for $0.99. Immediately after I placed the bid, I sent the seller a message explaining that I just bought the one card and that I was bidding on another he has up and that I will pay, if I win the auction, for both cards at the same time to take advantage of the combined shipping.

Dear ipaycashforcards,
Hi, I received the '05 Leaf card yesterday (which looks great, thank you!) but I did not receive this card, the Fleer Focus #'d/31. I was wondering if you may have sent them separately or if they should have been together?

- vena_carva
Hi, I am very sorry I dont have it here either can I offer a refund or something else
- ipaycashforcards
A refund would be fine. There' another copy up for bid, so I could allocate the money to that.
- vena_carva
Hi, it wont let me refund through paypal for some reason
- ipaycashforcards
Would
you mind trying it again one more time? I paid through paypal so I'm
not totally understanding why it wouldn't be able to refund through
that.
- vena_carva
Hi, it is not letting me refund.

Hi vena_carva,
Here's what just happened:
You opened an eBay Buyer Protection case for Mike Piazza 2002 Fleer Focus Jersey Edition #18/31--Mets.
Here's what you need to do next:
Try to work things out with the seller. If you don't hear back by Jan 22, 2013, you can escalate this case to eBay Customer Support.
What you should know:
This case will automatically close on Feb 13, 2013 if the case is not escalated.
Details you've provided:
Problem: You have not received the item
You have already contacted the seller through eBay Messages
You paid on Dec 26, 2012
The seller has responded to you
The seller tried or is trying to help you with the problem
You entered the phone number of "(XXX) XXX-XXXX"
We will not share your phone number with the seller.
Additional information:
"I paid for this item ($10 obo) and another item ($0.99 auction) on the same invoice. The package arrived on Jan 5th with the $0.99 item and not the item in question. I contacted the seller and he claims that he may have sent it separately. A few days later I still didn't receive the second item and the seller claims that he doesn't have it either, and offers me a refund. I accept the refund but the seller NOW claims that paypal is not allowing him to refund me, even though I paid through paypal. I asked him to please try again and I received the same response. To me, it doesn't make sense to send two items that were paid for on the same invoice, separate from each other and I'm a little suspicious considering I received the $0.99 item no problem, but the $10 item that I won via O.B.O. (in which the seller originally was asking $25 for) has disappeared and he is unable to refund me. "

Hi vena_carva,
Good news! We let the seller know you didn't receive the item, and the seller issued you a full refund. This case is now closed.
Refund information:
A full refund of $12.27 was issued on Jan 15, 2013. The refund includes the purchase price plus original shipping and was issued to the same payment method you used to pay for the item.

At this point, I'm ready to leave feedback. Positive for the card I actually received and Negative for the '02 Focus that I never got.
Hi,
I issued the refund, why would you leave a negative can you take it
back and I will issue $5 for your trouble so it will help with the
purchase of a new piazza sorry again
- ipaycashforcards
First, I left a positive for the Leaf "Spotlight" since I actually received it and there were no problems with that card.
Second, I left a negative for the Fleer Focus because while you did issue me a refund, it only happened after I opened up a case against you. You twice claimed that paypal wouldn't let you refund me, even though that's how I paid, but the day after I open the case you conveniently figured out a way to issue me the refund.
Third, maybe it's just bad luck on your part, or maybe I'm reading into it too deeply but it really doesn't look good on your part when a costumer buys two items, one for $0.99 and another for $10 (when the seller originally wanted $25)and the $0.99 item is received no problem, but the $10 item that was purchased for 60% off original asking price is mysteriously lost.
Fourth, I'm no Ryan Gosling but it certainty takes more than $5 to buy me off. So keep your $5 and buy yourself something pretty.
Enjoy your negative feedback! :^p

Someone just got themselves uninvited from my Christmas party this year.
(...Joe)

Great read. Drown your sorrow with that Bailey's.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot to go through for the card of a guy who could even make the HoF on the first ballot. Sigh.
ReplyDelete"Today, I stopped by the liquor store to buy a bottle of whiskey for my girlfriend and Bailey's Irish Cream for myself."
ReplyDeleteMaybe not a surprise, but your girlfriend is way cooler than you.
Anyway, way to stick it to the seller. People freak out too much over the negative feedback thing. If you didn't get the item and didn't get a refund without opening a case, it's a bad transaction, plain and simple.
